The Demonization of Nimrod

IT APPEARS AS THOUGH AN EFFORT IS BEING MADE TO DEMONIZE NIMROD AND THE OTHER DESCENDANTS OF CUSH. THE BIBLE STATES THAT NIMROD WAS "A MIGHTY HUNTER BEFORE THE LORD," WHICH DOES NOT IN ANY MANNER EXPRESS AN ANTITHETICAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GOD & NIMROD. IF WE ARE GOING TO GIVE AS MUCH WEIGHT TO THE WRITINGS OF OTHER CULTURES AS WE DO THE HOLY WRIT, THEN WE ARE CREATING OTHER CANNONS AND PLACING THEM PARALLEL TO THE HOLY WORD OF GOD.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT ANY OTHER WRITINGS FROM ANY OTHER CULTURE OR INDIVIDUAL ARE EVEN REMOTELY TO BE USED TO SUPPLEMENT THE WORD OF GOD. AFTER ALL, THE BIBLE DOES SAY NOTHING ADDED AND NOTHING TAKEN AWAY.

In response to this post, I present a kind of rebuttal to this claim concerning the charge of adding to the Scriptures. Genesis 10:9 says:

Gen 10:9 KJV+
(9) HeH1931 wasH1961 a mightyH1368 hunterH6718 beforeH6440 the LORD:H3068 whereforeH5921 H3651 it is said,H559 Even as NimrodH5248 the mightyH1368 hunterH6718 beforeH6440 the LORD.H3068

The funny numbers with the "H" prefix (Hebrew) are Strong's dictionary numbers. The word "before" (H6440) is translated from the Hebrew paniym, which is defined by Strong's below:

Total KJV occurrences: 2120

Note that the above includes the word "before" and note that other words are also translations for the Hebrew paniym, such as "against."

Now look at this:

Existing example of Hebrew paniym number H6440 translated "against" and "before" in the same verse:

Now Genesis 10:9 didn't really make sense to me because a sentence is repeated twice in the verse. If you replace "before" with "against"...

Gen 10:9 KJV
(9) He was a mighty hunter against the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter against the LORD.

The verse makes better sense. The word "before" was therefore a mistranslation, though the word is part of the legitimate definition (renderings) of the Hebrew word paniym.

Conclusion: nothing was taken away, and nothing was added to the Scriptures.
