Could Not Have Been Shem

by Robert Marshall
(Clinton, Pa.)

When Adam and Eve sinned against God they died Spiritually. Since Adam was dead spiritually and thrown out of the Garden of Eden, when he had Cain and Abel they were also spiritually dead.

After Cain killed Abel, Cain's generation was destroyed in the flood. Adam had another son, Seth, who was born in the image of Adam. Since Adam was dead spiritually he could not give spiritual life to Seth.

Since all men were born with a sin nature, all mankind was destined to Eternal damnation. Shem was also born with a sin nature, so he could not possibly be Melchizedek.

Whoever he was, he was symbolic of a Priesthood that would last forever. He was symbolic of Jesus being a Priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

God calls the Born again Believer Kings and Priests. The Bible says Jesus is our High Priest. So we are Priests in the order of Melchizedek.
